Welcome to the Nuhop Center

Dear Friends of Special Kids,

The opportunity to help a child, to make a difference; to know that a life is better because you cared - that is the essence of Camp Nuhop.  2013 marks our 40th year of helping children with "Special Needs".   Why is Camp Nuhop so important in the life of a child?

More than just a week... but a whole lifetime of memories!  Camp Nuhop offers a variety of week long camp modules based on various degrees of readiness levels.  All encourage campers to develop a willingness to stretch beyond their comfort zones ... to try, to experience, to take a further step!

More than just abbreviations!  LD, ADD, and SED are more than letters; more than names for learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders and severe emotional disorders.  They are children who got a tough start and are trying to cope, interact and be happy.  They have faces, fears, and frailties.  While most other "summer" camps are not staffed to understand or deal with these special children, we embrace them!  They are our "special campers".

More than just an experiment, but an experience that works!  Camp Nuhop has already witnessed a whole generation of campers.  Many have gone to college - some have graduated with honors.  We've attended their weddings and celebrated their new arrivals.  They have become productive members of society.  We firmly believe, and they continually tell us, that their experience at Camp Nuhop has helped them handle life with laughter, joy and confidence.

Camp Nuhop is a week-long residential summer camp for children diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, SED, ODD, LD, Asperger's Syndrome and other disabilities.  Camp Nuhop provides six week-long sessions. Each session offers programs that range from traditional activities to national trips. Each program focuses on providing an experience that promotes personal growth through success and friendship. Campers in each program are placed in groups of seven with three counselors based on age and compatibility. The program not only provides a respite and adventure for the child, but because we are a residential program the parents often use this time as a much needed respite!
