Advisory Services

Advisory services and consultation related to special education policy, procedures, legal compliance issues, and the educational decision-making process are available to educators and families by telephone, letter, email or personal appointment.

Community Resources

Information is available regarding local, state and national agencies or organizations providing direct and indirect services to children and youth with special needs. State Support Team Region 9 staff members serve on a number of interagency collaboratives to assist in the planning and development of service delivery.

Early Childhood Services

The Early Learning and School Readiness Team provides general and special education services to school districts, Head Starts, County Board of DD, parents, Help Me Grow and other agencies and programs that serve children ages birth through eight.  Services are designed to support successful involvement of high quality practices with local, state, and federal mandates and initiatives.  Services include technical assistance, professional development and consultation around:

  •  The Early Learning and Development Standards
  •  State Assessments
  •  Itinerant Teacher Network
  •  Special Education Compliance
  •  Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
  • Step Up To Quality (SUTQ)
  • Ohio Improvement Process (OIP)

Professional Development and Technical Assistance

Ongoing training for professional and parent growth is provided through workshops, seminars, technical assistance, and presentations coordinated through the State Support Team Region 9 professional staff. Professional development opportunities are designed to meet regionally assessed needs, in response to national or statewide educational initiatives, and are made available at the request of school systems, agencies, and parent groups within the region. The State Support Team Region 9 is an approved provider of professional development sessions to be considered for Local Professional Development (LPDC) credits.

Parent Consultants

Parent consultants are available from the State Support Team Region 9 to provide opportunities to increase cooperation between parents and school personnel in meeting the needs of children with suspected or identified disabilities. Either the parent or a school professional may request the services of a parent consultant to assist with concerns or questions regarding evaluation procedures, eligibility determination, program planning, and/or the provision of special education and support services.

The parent consultants are the parents of a child with an identified disability and are very familiar with all aspects of special education.

Program Development and Evaluation

Assistance is available to participating school systems regarding the planning and implementation of cooperative special education programs and services. The evaluation of special education programs and recommendations for the continuous improvement planning is available to participating school districts by request.
