The State Support Team Region 9 provides support and services in the areas of school improvement, special education compliance, literacy, early learning and school readiness, and secondary transition from high school.

The team supports district and school leadership teams as they implement the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) and works in concert with the Ohio Department of Education to facilitate school improvement efforts in the region. The team also sponsors events designed to provide information to parents and educators.

Marty Bowe, M.S.
State Support Team Region 9 Director

Marty Bowe serves as the Assistant Superintendent for the Stark County Educational Service Center as well as the Director of SPARCC, their Information Technology Center.  A former district superintendent, he has also held district positions as Assistant Superintendent, Business Manager and I.T. Director.

Marty's career started as an Air Force officer, designing intelligence equipment for the Department of Defense, and eventually broadened into education as an Assistant Professor at the United States Air Force Academy.  He received his undergraduate degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy and his masters degree from the Ohio State University.  He recently retired as a Lt. Colonel from the US Air Force Reserves.

Laurie Langenfeld, M.Ed.

Associate Director


Laurie Langenfeld oversees the regional State System of Support (SSoS).  The goal of the SSoS is to build capacity of local and related education agencies to engage in systemic and sustainable improvement that impacts educational outcomes for all students (PreK to age 22).  She has experience in school improvement planning, special education administration, and in the development and implementation of academic and behavior supports. Laurie joined SST-9 August, 2010, and serves on many regional and state-level committees/networks.

Prior to joining the State Support Team, Mrs. Langenfeld worked in the public school system as a secondary classroom teacher, High School Assistant Principal, Career and Technical Supervisor, and Secondary Special Education Supervisor. Laurie graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science in Education, and earned a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Ashland University.

Debbi Bailey, M.Ed., LSW
Consultant, Early Childhood, KRA, Early Learning Positive Behavior Interventions and Support

Debbi Bailey serves State Support Team Region 9 in the area of Early Childhood. Debbi's role includes work with the Early Childhood Positive Behavior Interventions and Support work at the state and regional levels as well as training and professional development for the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment, Early Learning Assessment, Step Up to Quality and the Early Learning Itinerant Network.

Debbi holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University with a specialization in Child Life and a Master Degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University. She holds a current License of Social Work in Ohio.  Debbi brings with her a variety of work experiences in the social work field including almost 20 years in district early learning programs, where she provided support to teachers and families experiencing behavior challenges with young children.

Barbara Ewing Cockroft, M.Ed., NBCT
Consultant, Ohio Improvement Process

Barbara Ewing Cockroft joined the State Support Team Region 9 in March 2014 as a School Improvement Consultant.  Barb provides professional development and technical assistance in support of the Ohio Improvement Process, assessment literacy, Webb’s Depth of Knowledge, and differentiated instructional practices, among others.

Barb has more than thirty-five years of classroom experience as a 7th and 8th grade language arts teacher on which to base her expertise, including 17 years of teaching reading and writing to gifted students. Additionally, Barb uses her passion for education to mentor both aspiring and experienced teachers.  She was the Director of Professional Development at Walsh University from 2010-2012, as well as an associate professor for pre-service teachers. Additionally, she served as an adjunct professor at Kent State University where she taught the master’s cohort on how to teach gifted learners. She speaks regularly at both the state and national level.

Barb holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Physical Education from Ashland College and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland 
University.  She holds a permanent teaching license in the state of Ohio, is a National Board Certified Teacher, and has earned a K-12 Gifted Education Endorsement. She also is credentialed as an OTES evaluator, an Assessment Literacy trainer and a FIP (Formative Instructional Practices) specialist. She was recently elected to the Ohio ASCD Board of Directors and serves on the Education Committee for the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Sherry Faulk, Ed.D.

Dr. Sherry Faulk serves State Support Team Region 9 as an educational consultant to school districts in the area of school improvement and supports district, and building leadership teams as well as teacher-based teams in raising outcomes for all students by using the Ohio Improvement Process.

Sherry received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University, a Master of Educational Administration and a Superintendent's license from Youngstown State University and received a doctorate specializing in Christian education.

Dr. Faulk has over 40 years of expertise in the area of education and administration. Sherry was a State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) Lead and a member of the SPDG Core Planning Team.

She served 12 years as a junior high school English teacher, 6 years as a high school English teacher, 3 years as a high school assistant principal, and 9 years as a junior high school principal. She began her work as an educational consultant in February of 2005 for the East Regional School Improvement Team and continues in that capacity for SST9.

Jen Griffing serves State Support Team 9 as a consultant in the area of OIP/School Improvement.  Jen also provides support in the areas of family and community engagement and early literacy. 

Jen has a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from Malone University along with a K-12 Reading Endorsement.  She earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Educational Leadership from Ashland University.  Jen brings experience from the primary classroom along with work in the area encouraging strong family and community relationships.

Debbie Hartwig, MA, NBCT
Regional Early Literacy Specialist

Debbie Hartwig is the Early Literacy Support Specialist for State Support Team 9. As such, her primary responsibilities are to serve the district and pilot schools of the Early Literacy Ohio Grant and support districts throughout Region 9 in their efforts to close the achievement gap in Literacy. Debbie also continues to support administrators, and teachers in the Ohio Improvement Process.

Prior to this year, Debbie has supported districts in Region 9 in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, Universal Design for Learning, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. She has also served as a district Literacy Coach.

Debbie received her BA from Walsh University in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Early Childhood Education and a MA in Counseling and Human Development. She also received National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist.

With almost 40 years serving teachers, parents and students, Debbie’s classroom experience includes Special Education, Multi-Age Education, Looping (Multi-Year) education, and Gifted Education with students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Along with her work in Literacy, Debbie also served for over 15 years as Lead Elementary Science Teacher for the teachers and students in her district.

Susan Korey-Hirko is a consultant for the State Support Team Region 9. Susan previously worked in Region 8 supporting districts through consulting, coaching and professional development and participated on ODE Early Learning and School Readiness  Work Groups to advance the work of the state for 12 years. Prior to that, Susan taught in a variety of capacities.

Susan’s work has been to support teachers and administrators efforts in providing an exceptional education to all students. Susan has supported school districts regionally and nationally in establishing intentional curriculum, assessment and instructional practices.

Susan is passionate about ensuring adults and students learn in a way that is engaging, effective and lasting. Susan has facilitated adult learning through design and delivery of a wide range of educational topics and promotes that knowledge of learning to classroom practices for students.

Susan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Family and Child Studies and her Master of Education degree both from Kent State University.

Sue Long serves State Support Team Region 9 by providing support to district and building educators in school improvement efforts in the region.  She has experience in varied curriculum and administrative leadership experiences in instructional design, curriculum policy, school improvement strategies and systems thinking to develop effective teaching and learning environments in schools.

Sue earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a double major in English and Library Educational Media from Bowling Green State University, and a Master of Library Science and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University.  Throughout her 35 years in public education, Sue has served as a librarian, Curriculum Specialist, Director of Library Services, Curriculum Director and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in a large urban district.  In addition, Sue has served on the State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) and Ohio Leadership Advisory Council Committees.

Mary Lynne serves the State Support Team Region 9 as our Family and Community Engagement and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support Consultant.

With over 35 years of professional expertise K-12 in special education and school counseling, Mary Lynne has had the opportunity to serve students and families by creating and implementing proactive student interventions and programs.  She also established meaningful school - community partnerships that enhance student success in school and in the post secondary framework.   She has served in many leadership roles in curriculum areas that focus on social and emotional wellness, student achievement, and school climate and culture.

Mary Lynne's educational credentials include a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Morehead State University, Morehead Kentucky; Masters Degrees in the areas of Special Education, College and Community Counseling, and Secondary Administration all from the University of Akron.  Additionally, she received certification as an etiquette trainer from The International School Of Protocol in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

Valerie Pack serves State Support Team Region 9 as a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Consultant, and she will also provide principal coaching and support to leadership teams to raise outcomes for all students.  Prior to joining  the team, she served public education for 31 years as a high school English/Language Arts teacher, Middle School Assistant and Head Principal, High School Principal, and Special Education/Gifted Director.  Also, as a member of the the district senior leadership team, she co-facilitated the Ohio Improvement Process and PBIS efforts within the district.

Terryl Swejk serves as consultant and Secondary Transition Specialist for State Support Team Region 9.  In this role, she provides professional development and technical assistance to school districts, families and service agencies throughout the region.  Focus areas include school improvement (OIP), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (RTI and PBIS), college and career readiness, instructional practice and special education policies and procedures.  As Secondary Transition Specialists, she assists school districts and community stakeholders in strengthening collaborative ties that promote successful transitions for ALL students, including those served by IEPs, from high school into the adult world.  The goal is building systems that support student engagement in postsecondary education and employment opportunities.

Terryl holds a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from DePaul University, a Master of Education in School Psychology from John Carroll University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Ashland University. Her 20+ years in education have been spent educating children, families and staff from birth through the collegiate level. This includes roles as teacher, supervisor, program manager, instructor, consultant and coordinator in both public school and non-profit organizations.

Dana Weber serves as a consultant in the areas of English Language Learners and Curriculum & Instruction for State Support Team Region 9.  Her role includes developing, coordinating and delivering professional development and technical assistance to districts in the areas of identification, assessment, service models, program development & compliancy regarding English Learners in the schools. 

Dana has a Bachelors Degree in English Language Education from Ohio State University and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction and TESOL from University of New Orleans.  She also received her Gifted Endorsement from Ashland University.  Dana serves on the Lau Advisory Board at the Ohio Department of Education, is a member of ODE’s Network of Regional Leaders for Diverse Learners (NRL-DL), OTESOL (Ohio Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and International TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Leeann Weigman is a Consultant in the areas of early childhood, OIP/School Improvement and special education for the Region 9 State Support Team. Her role includes coordinating and delivering professional development and technical assistance to school districts in the areas of early childhood, special education accountability, and OIP/School Improvement.

Leeann has a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Special Education from Bowling Green State University.  She also has a Masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Cincinnati. Leeann has worked as an Early Intervention Specialist, Preschool Special Education Teacher and a Preschool Special Education Director.

Julie Weyandt serves State Support Team Region 9 as a consultant to school districts in the area of school improvement using the Ohio Improvement Process.  She will also provide principal coaching and support to leadership teams to help raise outcomes for all students.  She will co-facilitate trainings on Universal Design for Learning (UDL).    Prior to joining the State Support Team, Julie worked as a curriculum director, gifted coordinator, RE coordinator, testing coordinator, elementary principal, third grade teacher, and adjunct professor for Walsh University. 

Julie earned her Bachelor’s of Science in education from the University of Akron, and her Master’s Degree in School Administration from Ashland University.  In her role as building principal, her building earned the Excellent with Distinction rating three years in a row as well as being named a School of Promise.

Chris Wnoroski serves State Support Team Region 9 as a Special Education Consultant, serving Stark, Holmes and Wayne Counties.

As Special Education Consultant, Ms. Wnoroski provides training and technical assistance as defined by the Ohio Department of Education/ Office for Exceptional Children. She provides information to district administrators, teachers, related services personnel and parents on IDEA laws and regulations, Special Education procedures such as effective Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, and Alternate Assessment for Students with Disabilities.   Chris has special interest in the education of students with autism spectrum disorders having served as an autism consultant for a public school district for over 10 years.  Chris also serves our districts regarding training and technical assistance in the areas of Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning.

Prior to joining the State Support Team, Ms. Wnoroski provided over thirty years of professional expertise to the field of education delivering service to schools as a Speech/Language Pathologist, Autism Consultant, Assistive Technology Consultant as well as Special Education Consultant.  Chris graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech/Language Pathology, and earned her Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology from Kent State University.
